AFTER THE LODGE CLOSED;

PROGRAM: Ladies & Guests were invited in and Paul Barrass gave a very interesting program on the many aspects of General Jubal (“Ole Jube”)Early.

After a scrumptious lunch, provided by the Spurmont Stewards, Jim Herendeen & Tom Canterbury, we motorcaded towards Fishers Hill. Due to a logistical error, we re-arranged our plan and stopped first at Bill Erbach’s mill (at Fishers Hill).

Our gracious host invited us into his mill house and there our Guide (Richard Kleese) met up with our group. Richard Kleese is an author and local historian, well versed in this Battle. Rich gave us a detailed account of that fateful day

(September 22nd, 1864) and other factors that led to disaster for the Confederate forces.

Before moving out to the battlefield, Brother Erbach had soft drinks and a Birthday cake to celebrate Dave Piper’s birthday. Of course, we all sang an inspiring version of Happy Birthday.

On the battlefield, Rich pointed out the landmarks and the troop movements that he spoke of at the Mill. Rich offered to take any volunteers to the top of the hill but there were no takers!

We returned to the Lodge content, happy & hungry.

Dinner was at the Butcher Block in Stephens City and was well attended. No one left hungry!

(Friday night dinner at the Outback Restaurant in Kernstown was also very well attended.)

Another great trip!
